Manufacturing Center of the Carolinas Charlotte is a major manufatcuring force. Over half of all Carolina's manufacturing companies are located within the Charlotte region. These 3,760 manufacturers employ more than a quarter of a million workers. In addition to the traditional textile industry, the electronics and metal working industries have significant presence in the area.
- Growing Number of International Companies Over 356 foreign owned companies have Charlotte facilities representing one-half of all foreign companies in North Carolina. Charlotte is a port of entry with fully staffed US Customs and Immigration and Naturalization offices. The Charlotte Foreign Trade Zone and an inland port facility are also located here.
- Exceptional Market Access Charlotte is the center of the Nation's 5th largest urban region. Charlotte is a mid-sized city with a population of 507,600; the largest city within the region. Within the radius, Charlotte's population of 5.9 million exceeds Atlant, Miami and Memphis. Charlotte has emerged as a financial, distribution and transportation center for the entire urban region. Charlotte has also developed into a major wholesale center with the highest per capita sales in the US, ranking 6th Nationally in total wholesale sales.
- Financial Powerhouse Charlotte is first and foremost a banking city. With $319 billion in assets, it is the 2nd largest financial center in the Nation. Nine of the nation's top 200 banks operate in Charlotte Two of them rank in the top twenty-five are headquartered here, NationsBank and First Union.
- Quality Business Environment Charlotte serves as the subsidiary headquarters for many major National and International companies. During the past ten years, 4,470 new firms invested more than $3 billion in new Charlotte facilities. Of the companies with Charlotte headquarters, 568 have a net worth of a half a million dollars or more.
